Materials and yarn planning

Yarns we’ve reviewed that suit it: Bernat Softee Cotton yarn, Knit Picks Dishie Cone yarn, Lion Brand 24/7 Cotton DK yarn. For the hook, choose by size and handle.

To buy for a set, make one complete motif first and weigh it: multiply by the number you need, add a little for joins and finishing, and divide by the ball weight on the label. A rectangular swatch cannot predict yarn for this shape. With a total length instead, the yarn-length-to-balls calculator gives the ball count.

Finished size and gauge

Measure one washed side. Join triangles into bunting, a shawl or a hexagon (six triangles).

The gauge calculator compares your swatch with the pattern. A stitch name you do not know is in the abbreviation chart; a UK pattern’s names are in the US/UK term reference.

Round 1

  1. Chain 4 and slip stitch into the first chain to form a ring.
  2. Chain 3 (counts as a double crochet), 2 double crochets into the ring, chain 2. [3 double crochets into the ring, chain 2] 2 times. Join to the top of the chain 3: 9 double crochets and 3 corners.

Rounds 2 and 3

  1. Round 2: slip stitch to the next corner space. (Chain 3, 2 double crochets, chain 2, 3 double crochets) in that corner. [Chain 1, (3 double crochets, chain 2, 3 double crochets) in the next corner] 2 times, chain 1, join: 18 double crochets.
  2. Round 3: slip stitch to the next corner space. (Chain 3, 2 double crochets, chain 2, 3 double crochets) in it. [Chain 1, 3 double crochets in the next chain-1 space, chain 1, (3 double crochets, chain 2, 3 double crochets) in the next corner] 2 times, chain 1, 3 double crochets in the last chain-1 space, chain 1, join: 27 double crochets.
  3. Fasten off and weave in the ends.

Check the work

Each round adds 9 double crochets: one 3-dc group per corner and one more per side. Three corners on every round.

Double crochets by round9 · 18 · 27
  • If the triangle curls, check for a missing chain 1 between groups.
  • If a corner flattens, it needs both 3-dc groups and the chain 2 between them.
