What the recommendations mean
We suggest supplies by matching each maker’s published details to a job: handle shape, hook size, fiber, ball size, care and what a tool does. We don’t test products by hand, so these are suggestions, not awards, and we don’t score comfort, durability or stitch quality.
Sources
The source list identifies the crochet standards and exact product pages behind the information. A product specification links to its maker’s page; sizes, materials and package contents do not change once a product is made, so they carry no check date. A manufacturer specification is separate from a merchant’s current stock.
Hook sizes and units
Millimeters come first; US letters and old UK numbers follow them. Steel hooks have their own chart. A yarn weight category covers a range, so two yarns in one category aren’t always the same thickness or a safe swap. The calculators work in one unit throughout and round up to whole balls.
When facts change
Published product details can change by region, color and batch, and we don’t show prices or stock. When the label on your ball says something different, follow the label.
Sizes, fiber and ball lengths don’t change once a yarn or hook is made, so we don’t date them. Colors and packs can differ, though, so the yarn calculator asks you to check the length and weight on your ball band before it gives a total.
Testing and images
Our stitch drawings, illustrations and practice instructions are our own; none of the artwork shows the products we list. The calculators have automated tests; we haven’t yet crocheted the practice pieces or the project patterns ourselves. We don’t reproduce other designers’ patterns.
Supply photographs come through Amazon’s licensed product API. Each links to the exact item shown; the caption identifies the hook size, set or yarn color and ball size. Photos disappear when their short-lived metadata expires or the image cannot load. Other colors and packs may differ from the one pictured.
Corrections
Use the contact form to tell us about a mistake, with a link to your source if you have one. When we fix a figure or a formula, we fix it everywhere it appears. A commission never changes what we recommend or the order we list it in.
Original patterns and diagrams
Our patterns are written, drawn and counted by us. Their sizes come from your own measured swatch, not from a sample we crocheted.
We check every row and round count against its repeats before publishing; we haven’t yet crocheted samples of the patterns. A correct count can’t tell you how your yarn will drape, fit or hold its shape, so keep the yarn label and make a swatch in the pattern stitch.
The “Updated” date on a pattern changes only when its instructions change.
