Crochet blanket size calculator: chains, rows and yarn

Choose a size, enter what your washed swatch measures, and get the foundation chain, the number of rows and a yarn estimate. Corner-to-corner blankets work in blocks.

Em português calculadora de manta

Your washed swatch
1 for plain stitches; 2 for moss stitch; 3 for waffle.
For “a multiple of 3 plus 2”, enter 3 and 2.
Usually 1 for sc, 2 for hdc and 2 for dc (its 3 skipped chains count as the first stitch).
The body shrinks by this on every side.
Add a yarn estimate (optional)

Weigh a washed 10 × 10 cm swatch in the blanket’s stitch on a kitchen scale.

The prefilled swatch is an example: a throw in double crochet at 12 stitches and 7 rows per 10 cm. Use your own.

Chain 154

152 × 107

152 stitches across and 107 rows.

Finished about 126.7 × 152.9 cm.

Add a weighed swatch to estimate the yarn.

How the numbers are worked out

Stitches across = body width × your stitches per 10 cm ÷ 10, rounded to the nearest whole repeat. The foundation chain adds the chains your first row skips: 1 for single crochet, 2 for half double crochet, and 2 for double crochet, whose 3 skipped chains count as its first stitch, as in our double crochet lesson. Rows = body length × your rows per 10 cm ÷ 10. The finished size is worked back from those whole counts, so it can differ from the size you asked for by a few millimeters.

The yarn estimate scales the weight of your 10 × 10 cm swatch to the area of the blanket’s body, inside any border, and rounds the balls up. It does not include the border, joins or tails, so buy a little more, and buy every ball from one dye lot.

Corner to corner (C2C)

A C2C blanket grows diagonally in blocks. A rectangle W blocks wide and H blocks long takes W + H − 1 diagonal rows: increase at both edges until you reach the shorter side, increase on one edge and decrease on the other along the longer side, then decrease at both edges to the last corner.

Blanket sizes vary from pattern to pattern. See the blanket size chart for what each size is for.
