Materials and yarn planning

Yarns we’ve reviewed that suit it: Bernat Softee Cotton yarn, Knit Picks Dishie Cone yarn, Lion Brand 24/7 Cotton DK yarn. For the hook, choose by size and handle.

To buy for a set, make one complete motif first and weigh it: multiply by the number you need, add a little for joins and finishing, and divide by the ball weight on the label. Measure the washed diameter. Each round of double crochet adds about two stitch heights to the diameter.

  1. Round 1 (color A): magic ring, chain 3 (counts as a double crochet), 11 double crochets in the ring, join: 12 stitches.
  2. Round 2 (color B): join in any stitch, chain 3, 1 double crochet in the same stitch, 2 double crochets in each stitch around, join: 24 stitches.
  3. Round 3 (color C): chain 3, 2 double crochets in the next stitch, [1 double crochet, 2 double crochets in the next] around, join: 36 stitches.
  4. Round 4 (color D): chain 3, 1 double crochet in the next stitch, 2 double crochets in the next, [1 double crochet in each of the next 2, 2 in the next] around, join: 48 stitches.

Picot edge

  1. Round 5 (color E): chain 1, [single crochet in the next 3 stitches, chain 3, slip stitch into the third chain from the hook] 16 times, join: 48 single crochets and 16 picots.
  2. Fasten off, weave every color’s ends into its own round, and block flat.
