Work from one label, not two different yarns
If a ball label states 200 m for 100 g, its listed ratio is 200 ÷ 100 = 2 m per gram. A 30 g remainder of that same yarn is approximately 60 m. This is an arithmetic example, not a claim about a product.
That estimate assumes the leftover is the same yarn as the labeled ball, with the same length per gram. It is not a method for identifying unlabeled yarn. Do not compare a fluid ounce with a yarn ounce; fluid ounces measure volume.
Round up when you buy
Keep calculation precision while converting units. Divide the total length needed by the length in one ball, then round the number of balls upward.
For example, 500 m needed from 200 m balls gives 2.5 balls, so the whole-ball count is 3. Add only the spare-yarn allowance you intentionally choose; do not add it again if the pattern already includes it.
