Start with what the project needs

A winder organizes yarn. It does not support an open hank by itself. Compare hand winding with the listed model, and choose a support for the hank before either method.

When to skip the purchase

If the ball is ready to use and unwinds without tangles, you may not need to rewind it. A supported hank can also be wound by hand. Stop if the strand snags; tensioning a snag harder can tighten the tangle.

Listed by brand and name. Where the maker doesn’t give a detail, the table says “Not specified.” The specs are the makers’ own; the advice is ours, and we haven’t tested these by hand.
